Hello, this is Osamu, the manga blogger.
In Chainsaw Man, there is one character who colored the story most noisily and vividly as Denji's buddy and the "high-maintenance little sister" of the Hayakawa household... Yes, it's "Power-chan (Lord Power)"!
"It wasn't me!" "Bow down, human!"
Why was she, who spewed nothing but abusive language and lies, so loved by readers, and why did she meet such an end? Today, we will dig deep into the charm of the Blood Fiend, Power, and the "final contract" she left for Denji.
Lying as Easily as Breathing! The Ultimate "Narcissistic" Monster
Power's charm lies in her "refreshing selfishness."
She exaggerates her own achievements and blames all failures on others ("It wasn't me!").
She looks down on humans and goes on a rampage immediately if something displeases her.
She doesn't bathe, and she doesn't flush the toilet...
Thinking rationally, she is the "worst roommate." However, there is no duplicity in her actions. Because she is faithful to her desires and pure like a child, there was a charm about her that you just couldn't hate.
Aki cooking, while Denji and Power complain as they eat. In the balance of this strange "family," her freewheeling nature was the very "brightness" in a Devil Hunter's life that sat side-by-side with death.
Awakening to "Love" by Overcoming Fear
The only being that such a selfish Power cared for other than herself in the story was her pet cat, "Nyako" (Meowy). Initially, she didn't mind betraying Denji for Nyako's sake.
However, as the battle with Makima intensified, a change occurred in her state of mind.
Power was trembling with instinctive biological fear towards Makima, the "Control Devil." Although she should have valued her own life above all else, the action she took at the very end was shocking.
She defied Makima's orders and threw away her own life to save Denji.
The Final Contract: "Go Find the Blood Devil"
Power temporarily revived by eating Pochita after rescuing Denji, but her body had reached its limit. When the two were alone in a dumpster, she gave her own blood to Denji and made a "contract."
"I'll give you my blood... In exchange... come find me."
Even if a devil dies, they are revived in hell and reincarnated in this world again. However, at that time, they will no longer have the memories of "the current Power." Even so, she told Denji:
"Turn them back into Power again."
Conclusion: What Power Wanted to Convey
Here is what Osamu thinks: What Power wanted to convey at the end was "the inheritance of a purpose to live."
Denji had everything taken by Makima and had lost the will to live. To him, Power gave a tremendous, yet clear "reason to live": to search for the Blood Devil, become friends, and turn them back into Power.
The Fiend who had thought only of herself wished for "her friend's future" in her final moments.
She said that dying with the memory of being "buddies with Denji" wasn't so bad. That smile might have been the "Liar" Fiend's first and last act of "true love."
Will the day come in Part 2 when Denji meets the "Blood Devil" again?
What is your favorite line from "Lord Power"?
