Hello! I'm Osamu, a manga blogger.
The Nichirin sword is the symbol of the soul of a Demon Slayer Corps member.
It is the only weapon capable of destroying demons, and at the same time, it is truly a "living weapon" in that not only its color but also its "shape" changes depending on the "breath" and "soul" of the wielder.
I'm convinced that this is now in the realm of a "Magical Tool Dictionary."
It is the same as the "chosen weapons" such as the Kusanagi Sword and Excalibur (from the Magic Encyclopedia) listed in the "Dictionary of Magical Tools."
The Nichirin sword is a "catalyst" and "magical tool" that reflects everything about its owner.
So today, I would like to announce, in my own opinion, a ranking of the Nichirin swords that have the most unique designs as "magical tools"!
[Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba] A look at the "Dictionary of Magical Tools"! A ranking of unique "Nichirin Sword" designs that reflect the owner's individuality
5th Place: Snake Pillar, Obanai Iguro
[Magic Tool Classification]: Curse Form - Serpentine Sword
First up in 5th place is Iguro's "Serpentine Sword".
This sword features a wavy blade that resembles the Indonesian "keris," a magical dagger.
From the perspective of "similarity magic (things that are similar affect each other)" in the Magical Encyclopedia, this can be said to be a form in which the sword itself imitates the "concept" of a "snake" in order to perform the technique known as "Snake Breathing."
The unpredictable "Snake Breathing" technique is created because the sword undulates like a snake.
The owner's "obsession" and "curse" have distorted (or optimized) the shape of the sword itself, creating a stunning "magical design."
4th place: Sound Pillar, Uzui Tengen
[Magical Tool Classification]: Dual/Destruction Magic Tool
Uzui's "flashy" Nichirin sword is no longer a "katana" but a huge pair of swords resembling a "meat cleaver."
The Dictionary of Magical Tools lists several "paired weapons" from mythology, but Uzui's is "two in one."
This reflects his dual nature as a former ninja, his dual-wielding breathing technique, and his destructive nature, which favors flashiness. The fact that he is chained is also important, as it symbolizes controlled chaos.
It is a destructive magical tool that is more like an axe, capable of slashing and causing explosions, rather than the delicate slashing of a sword.
3rd Place: Insect Pillar, Kochou Shinobu
[Magic Tool Classification]: Special effect (poison) - Injection magic needle
Here it is. What I consider to be a "revolution in design" is Shinobu's "poison needle" sword.
To compensate for its "weakness" of not being able to cut off the neck of an ogre, the sword's "slashing" function was completely abandoned, and it was specialized for "stabbing" and "injecting poison."
According to the "Dictionary of Magical Tools," this is a special magical tool that does not fall into the category of a "sword," but rather into the category of a "wand" or "stinger."
Using her swordsmithing skills (= the power of the sun), she creates a "needle that works on demons" and then injects her "curse (wisteria poison)" into it to destroy her opponent.
It is a terrifying design in which the owner's "determination" and "intelligence" have changed the very "concept" of weapons.
2nd Place: Love Pillar, Mitsuri Kanroji
[Magic Tool Classification]: Phantasmagoric/Cursed Magic Sword
In second place is Kanroji's "Whip Sword," which goes far beyond common sense!
It is an extremely thin, long, and flexible sword that can only be wielded by her "unique constitution (= a divine curse or blessing)" which is characterized by her extraordinary "muscle density."
In the "Dictionary of Magical Tools," whips and chains are sometimes depicted as magical tools that not only have the power to "slash" enemies, but also to "bind" and "capture" them, giving them the power of "binding."
Her sword truly envelops, captures, and cuts off her opponent with "love."
This is the ultimate personalized design, discarding the conventional wisdom of the "sword" and dedicating everything to the owner's "extraordinary talent."
1st place: Rock Pillar, Gyomei Himejima
[Magical Tool Classification]: Haja (destruction of evil) / Ceremonial Weapons
Osamu's choice for the "Most Unique Magical Tool Design" goes to Himejima's "Axe and Iron Ball"!
This isn't even called a "Nichirin sword" anymore (lol)
It completely deviates from the concept of a "sword."
He is a "monk" and the strongest of the "pillars."
The weapon he possessed was not a blade for slashing.
This is a **ceremonial weapon for destroying evil** used to 'smash' evil beings (demons).
Like the "kongosho" (a Buddhist ritual implement) found in temples and shrines listed in "Japan's Top 200 Shrines," the "axe" cuts off evil connections and the "iron ball" crushes "earthly desires (demons)."
This weapon, attached by a chain imbued with the power of the sun, embodies both Himejima's mercy and rage.
The "faith" and "role" of the owner determine the "shape" of the weapon, making it the perfect design for a "magical tool"!
summary
The above is Osamu's arbitrary ranking of "Unique Nichirin Swords"!
Looking at it this way, we can see that the more highly ranked the Pillar, the stronger the Nichirin sword's aspect as a magical tool that goes beyond common sense.
This is because they themselves carry with them "curses," "talents," and "obsessions" that go beyond the bounds of "common sense."
Wow, the design of the Nichirin sword is so profound!
It was Osamu!
