Hello! This is Osamu, the manga blogger.
When you talk about one of the charms of Demon Slayer, you have to mention the wide variety of "Blood Demon Arts" (Kekkijutsu) that the demons unleash!
I believe these aren't just simple supernatural battles. They are the very definition of "jujutsu" (sorcery/curses)—a distorted manifestation of the demon's own "karma" (go) or their "lingering attachments from life."
Of course, some are physically "strong" techniques, like Akaza's "Destructive Death." But the truly terrifying ones are the complex, sorcerous Blood Demon Arts that "ignore the laws of physics" and make you wonder, "How do you even defeat this?" Right?
So today, with my favorite book, the Dictionary of Magic, in hand, I'd like to announce Osamu's personal picks for the "Top 5 Most 'Sorcerous' and Complex Blood Demon Arts Ranking!"
[Demon Slayer] Analyzed with the Dictionary of Magic! The Most "Sorcerous" and Complex "Blood Demon Art" Ranking
Number 5: Doma, "Freezing Clouds" (Konagori)
[Sorcery Category]: Wide-Area / Contagious Magic type
First to rank is the Blood Demon Art of Upper Rank Two, Doma.
He freezes his own blood, scatters it as a mist, and anyone who inhales it has their lungs "frozen" and afflicted with necrosis...
This isn't just a simple "ice ability."
It's an application of "Contagious Magic," which is listed in the Dictionary of Magic, where you cast a curse on a part of the target (like their hair).
In this case, the act of "inhaling" becomes the trigger for "contact (contagion)," allowing "Doma's blood (= the curse)" to destroy the target from inside their own body.
A physical ice attack would be one thing, but this is an extremely vicious curse that creates a situation where "to breathe = to die."
Number 4: Gyokko, "Pots" (Tsubo)
[Sorcery Category]: Spatial Teleportation & Transfiguration type
The Blood Demon Art of Upper Rank Five, Gyokko, is a veritable parade of sorcery.
First, his "pots" are incredible.
This is what the Dictionary of Magic Items would call an "Item Connected to Another World" [25412]. His ability to freely teleport from pot to pot nullifies physical attacks.
What's even more complex is the curse that "turns humans he touches into fish."
"Transfiguration" [25413], according to the Dictionary of Magic [25413], is considered high-level magic, yet Gyokko activates it "merely by touching."
It forces an incomprehensible rule—"you will become a fish"—upon others. It is the very definition of an unreasonable "curse."
Number 3: Hantengu, "Manifestation of Emotions (Clones)"
[Sorcery Category]: Summoning (Demon) & Conceptual Armament type
The emotion of "fear" acts as a trigger to create clones of "Joy, Anger, Pleasure, and Sorrow"... This ability of Upper Rank Four, Hantengu, is extremely "sorcerous" and complex.
The Dictionary of Magic lists techniques for summoning "demons (Demon)" [25413] or "spirits," but Hantengu summons "his own emotions."
Moreover, if you try to attack the main body (Fear), the clones become stronger based on the logic (= curse) of "Don't bully the weak."
This is a state where he is using his own "karma" (go) as energy.
The perverse setup where the "main body you must defeat" has the "weakest appearance" is a high-level curse that mentally corners the attacker.
Number 2: Enmu, "Forced Slumber / Dream Manipulation"
[Sorcery Category]: Mind Invasion (Mind Hack) & Otherworld (Dream) Manipulation type
Here it is. One of the abilities in Demon Slayer that I find the most "sorcerous and repulsive!" The Blood Demon Art of Lower Rank One, Enmu.
The terror of his technique is that he challenges you to battle not in the "physical world," but in the "mental world (the dream)," an "otherworld" [25413] with completely different rules.
He casts a "curse" of forced sleep, invades the target's subconscious (dream), and destroys their "spiritual core"...
This is the hardest type of mental attack to defend against, even among the "Sorcery" [25413] mentioned in the Dictionary of Magic [25413].
No matter how much you train your physical body, if your spiritual "barrier" (kekkai) [25413] is weak, you're done for in one hit. It's truly a "curse-user-killer" Blood Demon Art.
Number 1: Nakime, "Infinity Castle (Spatial Manipulation)"
[Sorcery Category]: World Alteration / Reality Marble type
And finally, the Number 1 "Most Sorcerous and Complex Blood Demon Art" chosen by Osamu is Nakime's "Infinity Castle"!
This is beyond the level of a mere "technique."
What she is doing is "creating her own otherworld (= the Infinity Castle) and rewriting the 'laws' of that world in real-time."
Just by "playing the biwa (= chanting a spell)" [25413], the floors, walls, and ceilings invert, the laws of physics are bent, and her enemies lose all sense of where they even are.
This is closest to the concepts of "Mandara" [25413] or a "Reality Marble" (Koyū Kekkai) found in the Dictionary of Magic, where a user constructs a universe from their own inner world.
You are no longer fighting the "individual" named Nakime; you are being forced to fight "the 'world' itself that Nakime has recreated."
There is no Blood Demon Art more "complex" or "sorcerous" than this! The fact that there was no physical way to defeat it (they had to resort to stealing her spatial awareness/vision) also makes it the ultimate "curse."
Conclusion
That was Osamu's personal ranking of the most "Sorcerous and Complex Blood Demon Arts"!
Looking at it this way, it feels like the strength of the demons in Demon Slayer isn't just decided by brute force, but by how well they can impose their "unreasonable rules (curses)" on others.
What do you all think is the most "complex Blood Demon Art"?
Man, there's no end to the theories!
This was Osamu.
