Everyone is the strongest, and everyone is noble. That is the fundamental premise.
But, I’m going to do it anyway! I, Osamu, want to try and rank their "strength," mixing in my own "subjective judgment" and "deep analysis."
This ranking isn't just about simple combat power; it also includes their mentality, the depth of their "karma" (or burden), and even their "mythological significance."
Of course, I welcome any disagreements! With that said, let's get started!
Hello! This is Osamu, the manga blogger.
Today, I’m finally tackling this theme.
The strongest fighting force in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba: the Demon Slayer Corps "Hashira."
If we were to dare rank them on a scale of "strongest," what would the results be?
This is a ranking filled with my (Osamu's) own "arbitrary and biased" views.
What I consider "strength" isn't just mere physical power or speed.
It’s a comprehensive judgment based on their ability to handle "supernatural powers" like those mentioned in the Dictionary of Magic, their "mental fortitude" in how they faced their own "curses (fate)," and their "status" as "Divine Hashira," which I’ve speculated on before.
This is my personal TOP 9!
(Of course, it goes without saying that every single one of them is supremely awesome!)
[Osamu's Subjective Ranking! The Strongest Demon Slayer Corps Hashira]
9th Place: Insect Hashira - Shinobu Kocho
I'm sorry to start like this!
But this is purely because she is at a disadvantage in terms of "combat power (decisiveness against demons)," based on the single point that she "cannot cut off a demon's head."
However, that is not where her strength lies. While she is a "swordswoman," she is also a "mage (sorcerer)."
In the terms of the Dictionary of Magic, she is an expert in "Poison" and "Sorcery."
Her sheer tenacity, transforming even her own body into a "magic tool" to defeat Upper Rank Two, Doma... The depth of her "karma" and her resolve undoubtedly place her among the strongest Hashira.
8th Place: Love Hashira - Mitsuri Kanroji
Her unique physical constitution (muscle density) is truly "a heaven-sent gift."
Her flexible sword techniques and physical abilities allowed her to hold her own against the clones of Upper Rank Four, Hantengu, and she (temporarily) withstood Muzan's attacks in the final battle.
Her "Love Breathing" seems unusual at first glance, but I believe her very existence possessed a "sacred power" that inspired her comrades. The most fundamental power of "Love" is a strength unique to her.
7th Place: Sound Hashira - Tengen Uzui
Coming in "flamboyantly"! The reason I placed Uzui-san at this rank is because of his unbelievable achievement of defeating an Upper Rank (Six) without a Mark.
I can't help but wonder what would have happened if he had remained in perfect condition until the final battle...
His versatile skills as a former shinobi, his use of explosives—a form of "modern weaponry (magic tool)"—and above all, his combat sense that bordered on a type of "future sight (sorcery)" known as the "Score." He is the one and only "God of Festivals."
6th Place: Serpent Hashira - Obanai Iguro
Iguro-san's strength lies in his "tenacity" and "skill."
His "Serpent Breathing," with its coiling blade path, carries a mythological significance, evoking the "serpents (= dragon gods)" of Japanese mythology.
The desperate battle he waged against Muzan in the final showdown, and his awakening of the Crimson Red Blade... He is the very embodiment of a Demon Slayer, whose "curse" of a past is directly linked to his strength.
5th Place: Mist Hashira - Muichiro Tokito
The youngest genius among the Hashira. I placed him here because he achieved something that even Rengoku-san and Uzui-san could not: defeating an Upper Rank (Five, Gyokko) single-handedly.
Furthermore, he is a descendant of a "Sun Breathing" user.
His form, bewildering the enemy with "Mist"—a breathing style akin to illusion (magic)—is truly that of a sword prodigy. If he had survived, how much stronger would he have become? A terrifying talent.
4th Place: Flame Hashira - Kyojuro Rengoku
"What?! Rengoku-san is this high?" you might be thinking.
He exited the story in the early stages. But please, remember.
Without a Mark, he fought Upper Rank Three, Akaza, all by himself, until dawn.
His spirit was such that Akaza praised him as being "close to the supreme territory." I speculate that if Rengoku-san had awakened his "Mark," there's a possibility he could have even defeated Akaza.
His "Flames" are a power of origin, connecting to the Kamado family's "Hinokami Kagura." His "spiritual strength" is second to none among all the Hashira.
3rd Place: Water Hashira - Giyu Tomioka
From here, we enter the "exceptional" territory of those who survived the final battle and fought desperate struggles against the top-tier Upper Ranks.
Giyu-san mastered Water Breathing and created his own "Eleventh Form: Dead Calm."
That is no longer a sword technique; it is a barrier spell centered on himself. It is an absolute defense, similar to a "Magic Circle" from the Dictionary of Magic.
His calm swordsmanship and mental strength, which allowed him to fight on par with Upper Rank Three, Akaza, and hunt down Muzan alongside Tanjiro, truly make him one of the "strongest."
2nd Place: Wind Hashira - Sanemi Shinazugawa
His hatred for "demons" and his twisted love for his younger brother. That astounding "tenacity" is what makes Sanemi-san one of the strongest.
His Marechi blood (special blood type) is itself a "curse (debuff)" that intoxicates demons.
And above all, his skill, which allowed him to fight toe-to-toe with Upper Rank One, Kokushibo, until the very end. Furthermore, he participated in the battle against Muzan while covered in wounds, and survived.
His life force, his combat sense, and his fierce temperament, like a raging "Wind" god. He is the undisputed 2nd place.
1st Place: Stone Hashira - Gyomei Himejima
This is unshakeable.
The strongest in the Demon Slayer Corps. He is, in fact, acknowledged as the "strongest" in the story by both Kokushibo (Upper Rank One) and Muzan (the Progenitor).
He was originally a "monk" at a temple. "Shinto priests" and "monks," like those discussed in Japan's 200 Shrines, are beings who have historically confronted the "unseen" (demons and spirits).
His Nichirin weapon is not a "sword," but a flail and axe—"a holy weapon to vanquish evil."
His thoroughly forged body and spirit have transcended "humanity."
He was the strongest "guardian deity" (Dharma protector) serving the Ubuyashiki family, the "chief priests" of the Demon Slayer Corps, an organization dedicated to fighting a "curse."
He is the one who most embodies the theory I previously speculated on: "The word for 'Hashira' is also the counter word for gods."
Conclusion
That was Osamu's subjective ranking of the strongest "Hashira"!
Looking at it this way, the top-ranked individuals are all people whose "hatred for demons" or "past curses" are on an extraordinary level...
Of course, this is just my interpretation.
Who is "your" strongest? Please let me know your rankings, too!
This was Osamu.
